APAC Forum Bali 2023

The second APAC Regional Forum, held in Bali, Indonesia, November 1st–3rd 2023 — a record 350+ delegates and a very warm Indonesian welcome.

The Wrap

A record forum, a growing region

The first APAC Regional Forum, with over 200 delegates, was held in Kuala Lumpur in October 2022. In Bali we welcomed over 350 delegates — a record for a Forum so far — for one and a half days of presentations on the expanding world of Out of Home from media owners, buyers, tech suppliers and clients.

WOO President Tom Goddard opened the Forum highlighting the importance of the APAC region — home to four of the world’s biggest OOH markets, with OOH’s share in the region now at 7% against a global average of 5% — and outlined a course of action to grow the medium by 1% a year toward its merited 10% share.

The Goddard Agenda

What the industry still needs

  • More consolidation — research shows consolidated markets achieve a bigger market share.
  • More coordinated AdTech strategies — the adtech industry is booming but too fragmented.
  • More measurement and data across all markets — perhaps the key factor at every WOO event.
  • More collaboration on standards and language — the medium must become easier to plan and buy.
  • More empowerment for National Associations — active associations drive best practice and growth, but too many are under-resourced.
Across Two Days

From creativity to programmatic

Day One focused on driving sector growth: Chloe Neo of Singapore on cross-media measurement; Jay Young of Talon’s Grand Visual on the enduring power of OOH creativity; the launch of the WOO Sustainability Task Force; hardware perspectives from Absen and Daktronics; and market updates from Indonesia, India and a K-Pop-flavoured session on South Korea from Daewoon Kim.

Day Two turned to the science of OOH — data, automation and programmatic. Tom Goddard and Hivestack’s Andreas Soupliotis set the scene; The Trade Desk’s Greg Fournier made the omnichannel case; the OMA’s Charles Parry-Okeden moderated the programmatic panel; Sheila Shanmugam, CEO of Mindshare Group Malaysia, delivered a persuasive message on accountability; and Laetitia Lim of Quividi with Presco’s Kevin Chang lit up the growth potential of retail media.

Our Bali Forum more than met expectations thanks to an inspiring array of speakers and invaluable delegate feedback. It’s a brilliant way to end our 2023 programme — set fair for our first in-person Africa Forum and the Global Congress in Hong Kong.
