Our History
From six national federations in Paris to the only global Out of Home association — sixty-six years of one industry meeting under one banner.
From FEPE to WOO
Jacques Dauphin, the French pioneer of outdoor advertising, can be regarded as the founder of FEPE. The national outdoor advertising federations of France, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Italy and the Netherlands formed FEPE — the Fédération Européenne Publicité Extérieur — in Paris in 1959.
The federations of Great Britain, Switzerland, Spain and Ireland joined later, with individual companies from Austria, Portugal, Denmark, Norway and Sweden also becoming members. In the early 1990s, outdoor companies from Central and Eastern Europe joined; in 1996 the Budapest General Assembly voted to become a global organisation under the FEPE International designation.
In 2019, at the 60th Anniversary Congress in Dubai, FEPE International rebranded as the World Out of Home Organization — reflecting a truly global reach.
